Muse: HAARP
Muse is a UK-based band, formed in 1994 blending alternative, hard rock and electronica genres. Widely regarded as one of the best live bands on tour today, they are only now starting to make waves in US and Canada.
They have four (4) studio albums; Showbiz (1999), Origin of Symmetry (2001), Absolution (2003), and Black Holes and Revelations (2006). Hits include Muscle Museum, Plug in Baby, New Born, Bliss, Stockholm Syndrome, Time is Running Out, Hysteria and Knights of Cydonia (to name a few).
As the song names suggest, lead singer Matthew Bellamy’s somewhat eccentric interests in global conspiracy, theology and the apocalypse tend to be recurring themes in their music. Bellamy is also known as the architect of some of the catchiest guitar riffs in recent years (Plug in Baby placed 8th in Total Guitar’s Top 100 Riffs) and his playing style can best be described as a hybrid between Jimi Hendrix (no context required) and Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave).
Muse’s latest compilation is the Haarp Live CD/DVD set filmed/recorded over the course of two massive sold-out performances at 90,000-seat Wembley Stadium in London last summer. Haarp is scheduled to be released on March 17th in the UK and April 1st in the US and Canada. Definitely worth a look/listen!
